Florida will block tax credits for entertainment industry if movie or tv show has gay characters

From AMERICA blog GAY , and Google

In a move that indicates how out of touch with the entertainment industry the Florida Republican majority in the state legislature is, a provision to deny tax credits to any film or television production that contains gay characters was slipped into a 75 million dollar incentive bill.  Supposedly, the bill is designed to encourage film and television production in Florida.  The author of the provision apparently does not have a clue about Hollywood.  (The California Hollywood.  I’m not sure how the Florida Hollywood rolls)

In the words of the provision’s author, “Think of it as like Mayberry,” state Rep. Stephen Precourt, R-Orlando, said, referring to The Andy Griffith Show. “That’s when I grew up — the ’60s. That’s what life was like. I want Florida to be known for making those kinds of movies: Disney movies for kids and all that stuff. Like it used to be, you know?”

Another Republican Hypocrite Stumbles Out of His Closet

Another Republican hypocrite stumbles out of his closet…

CBS13’s report.

Roy Ashburn (R) of Bakersfield was arrested Wednesday morning for drunk driving.  Well, that’s pretty routine for the family values crowd.  They do love their booze.
The really interesting thing is the state Senator was pulled over after leaving Faces, a gay bar in Sacramento.  There was an unidentified male passenger, who was described only as “not identified as a lawmaker” in the Chevy Tahoe (way to go green, Roy) with Ashburn.  Reliably anti-gay in his Senate votes, Ashburn appears to be another “do as I say, not as I do” Republican.

You have the right to remain silent, Senator.  Too bad you didn’t take advantage of that a long time ago!

Statewide Event to Repeal Prop 8

February 2, 2010 Jim Reeves Leave a comment

Are you one of 1,000?
On Saturday, February 6th, 2010 people from across the state will come together in unison to take action in repealing Proposition 8 and restoring marriage equality in California. This will be the biggest statewide event planned to gather 100,000+ signatures to repeal Proposition 8 in a single day! It’s a hefty challenge, but it’s one that we are ready to take on. If we have 1,000 volunteers and they each collect 100 signatures, we’ve met our goal. This is your chance to prove that you’re serious about equality. Every day that goes by is another day that we allow discrimination to be written into the constitution. It doesn’t matter what your sexual orientation is. It doesn’t matter what your political party affiliation is. Race doesn’t matter, and neither does gender, religion, age, etc. This is a human issue. It’s an equality issue, and equality knows no bounds.

Help for Haiti

So if you haven’t heard already there is a great way to help the relief efforts in Haiti.  You can simply text “Haiti” to 90999 on your cell phone and a $10 donation will be made to the Red Cross on your behalf and put on your cell phone bill.  We just wanted to pass this information along.  Kudos to the NFL for posting this information during every playoff game this weekend.
