For the lucky few who were unaware the second chapter in the Twilight saga opened in movie theaters across the nation last week to the squeals of delight from teenage girls and fags of all ages. Yes that’s right, this dastardly mutation of dark fantasy has capture the hearts, minds and wet dreams of the country. “WTF?” “Why?” one is tempted to ask. What about a teenage girl who obsesses over a 109-year-old vampire who looks 24 but is supposed to be 17 but can’t kiss him because he might kill her(!) is so intriguing to people?
Well folks, there is an answer to that age-old question and it is simple: shirtless, hunky boys werewolves prancing prowling around. Yet as it turns out the specimen featured here will neither confirm nor deny whether he’s a queer or not. He’s only 17 so that’s perfectly understandable. Yet if he turns out to play for our team I volunteer to be the first to welcome him aboard.

A couple months ago Mike and I were in West Hollywood and had a chance to meet a wonderful man by the name of Terry Mason who also happens to be the author of a new book, Love Won’t Let Me Be Silent. Touching on coming out, relationships and civil rights this collection of writings, short stories, and poems is a fresh look at gay life from an African-American perspective. So go check out his website and let him know Queer Bakersfield sent ya!
There’s a pretty good article on Newsweek this week about why both gay marriage and marijuana will be legal within the next decade. From the article:
What’s driving the legalization of gay marriage is not so much the moral argument, but the pressures from couples who want to sanctify their relationships, obtain legal benefits, and raise children in a stable environment. What’s advancing the decriminalization of marijuana is not just the demand for pot as medicine but the number of adults—more than 23 million in the past year, according to the most recent government survey—who use it and don’t believe they should face legal jeopardy.
I don’t necessarily agree with his analysis: if only gay couples were pushing for gay marriage than I doubt it would have enough support to make any progress. Also I’d venture to say that couples wanting to raise children in a stable environment is a moral argument. Other than that though I’d say the article’s pretty good, so go check it out.

During our whirlwind trip through the South Valley Mike and I stayed at a nifty little hotel called the Hampton Inn. While a national chain the one we stayed at on the north edge of Bakersfield was quite possibly one of the nicest hotels I’ve ever been in. Not exactly what I was expecting from Bako.
The decor was modern and tasteful. The lobby didn’t make me want to get out of there as fast as possible with a free breakfast buffet to boot! Our room on the third floor had a… erm… beautiful view of the North Bakersfield Car Dealership and it came complete with everything you could ever need while traveling. Iron, hair dryer, shampoo, shaving cream. You name it and they provide it.
Also this particular Hampton had a cute boy working the counter who was both very helpful and knowledgeable about what there was to do in Bakersfield during our pride excursion. So what more could you ask for?
